General Motors requested that its advanced design studios rethink the Corvette as a hypercar. This version will be fully electric.

The Chevrolet C8 Corvette It has been around for five years now. Although it may still be premature to envision the C9, it’s hard not to speculate about future developments when General Motors keeps unveiling new Corvette concepts. The company requested its advanced design studios to create various Corvette designs, and this particular concept originates from GM's newly opened studio in the UK. This is just one among multiple Corvette concepts scheduled to make their debut this year.

The vehicle resembles an entity straight out of a video game, drawing significantly from the lineage of Corvettes. It features gull-wing doors along with divided front and rear windshields, reminiscent of the famous "split window" design seen in the 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray. A singular central beam serves as both a structural component and offers what they call an "Apex Vision," providing drivers with an unobstructed panoramic perspective of the roadway and environment around them.

The 'Vette concept features 22-inch front and 23-inch rear wheels, with an overall height of 40.7 inches, width of 85.8 inches, and length of 183.8 inches. In contrast, the C8 stands at 48.6 inches tall, measures 85.5 inches wide including mirrors, and spans 182.3 inches in length. Additionally, it includes an undisclosed electric vehicle power system.

The upper portion of the innovative design incorporates traditional Corvette aesthetic components such as a sloping rear window and recognizable fender flares. These sit atop an advanced lower section engineered for sophisticated aerodynamic performance, eliminating the need for conventional wings or spoilers to manage airflow efficiently.

Additionally, it features a sculpted underbody, adjustable aerodynamic components, and retractable dorsal fins designed for track performance. According to the specifications, it has a pushrod suspension system and a chassis influenced by race cars.

Michael Simcoe, GM's senior vice president of global design, said the company wants its advanced design teams to create things beyond production vehicles. Its studios are designed to "push the envelope, challenge convention, and imagine what could be."

He mentioned that these teams, working within our international design network on production and concept car initiatives, are mainly focused on envisioning what transportation might look like five, ten, or even twenty years ahead and pushing forward innovation for GM.

In five years' time, coincidentally, would be an ideal moment to debut the C9.
